THE CATALONIA AREA KITCHEN

Description  

Every year Prodeca takes part in the Barcelona Gastronomic Forum, which was held on 18-20 November 2019 at the Fira de Barcelona. 

For the first time, Prodeca, Xarxa de Productes de la Terra (Barcelona Provincial Council) and Girona Excel·lent (Girona Provincial Council) jointly promoted the Catalonia Area, a 1000m2 meeting place for around one hundred agri-food companies and Catalan producers.

The overarching aim of the partnership was to create a large, open space where Gastronomic Forum visitors could go on a journey around Catalonia through its food products and cuisine. It provided an opportunity for first-hand knowledge of Catalonia's producers and processors, as well as their characteristics and culinary skills. 

 

Aim

The Catalonia Area comprised two spaces: a commercial area and the 'Catalonia Kitchen', equipped with kitchen facilities and appliances to give live cooking demonstrations. Catalan cooking collectives and chefs devised the programme and paired up with producers to show visitors the culinary excellence of local produce in Catalonia.

This initiative aims to disseminate and promote local Catalan products among the Forum visitors in over 20 live cooking sessions of 45 minutes each.

 

At the end of each session, the 40 members of the audience were given a taste of the food that had been cooked.



A chef and a producer teamed up for each cooking demo, facilitated by a food journalist who helped to explain the competitive advantages and unique features of both the cooking and the products.
